Fast paced, fun, challenging both mentally and physically, strongly team oriented, all these terms describe my time at Office Depot. I went to work for Office Depot in their Technology Department. Except for lamps, basically if it plugged in or had something to do with something that plugged in, it was Technology. The position demanded you stay on top of the newest technologies and could offer an educated opinion to customers to help them meet their needs. The team I worked with made this easy as we all seemed to have a speciality niche. While my main department was Technology, this didn’t mean I could ignore the rest of the store. Each employee was expected to be able to assist customers in any other department. This was a challenging but rewarding aspect of the job. You could take a customer from the moment he/she walked in the store and fulfill all their needs. Need some envelopes? Sure let’s walk over here and show you all your options. Thinking of a Day-Timer? Let me show you what we have to offer and help you choose just the right one. Thinking of a new fax machine? You’re in luck! We have the newest model on sale this week and I believe it will do everything you need for your business. The important part was to build trust and develop a relationship with your customers. I had many, many customers that preferred to deal just with me and that is a really good feeling. Even after accepting the IT position with Duckett’s, I worked another 2 years part time at Office Depot. It was that good a bunch of people and that good of a company.

Office Depot was just opening a new store in Poplar Bluff about the same time as I left Truck Centers. I had enjoyed retail as a kid and wanted to try it again.
